Dalmigavie covers about six thousand acres and lies among the Monadhliath Mountains (pronounced Monnerlear). There is a large population of red deer in these remote mountains; to avoid starvation in the harsh winters a proportion of the deer must be culled each year, and deer stalking is available from early October to the end of January.

The River Findhorn, a fast-running stream whose level varies quite dramatically with rainfall in the surrounding hills and which is well known  for its salmon fishing, runs for four miles through Dalmigavie. Fishing is available by the day or week from May to July for up to four rods.
